- Virginia Union University's Raemaad Wright has been named the CIAA Defensive Player of the Week, the CIAA announced on Monday, December 19.In a pair of wins last week, Wright averaged 14.5 rebounds, 12 points, and totaled four blocks and a steal. In the 70-67 overtime road win over conference foe Winston-Salem State, the senior recorded 18 rebounds, tied for the top rebounding performance in the CIAA this season so far. The Suffolk, VA native also added 14 points, three blocks, and a steal versus the Rams. The forward had 11 rebounds, 10 points, and a block in the non-conference victory over Shepherd."Raemaad continues to do a great job controlling the paint rebounding the basketball and blocking shots," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach Jay Butler. "Each year he's improved on the defensive end of the court and I'm happy he's being recognized as a top defender in the conference."VUU will face Livingstone College on Monday, December 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Salisbury, N.C.
