TIM DOYLE NAMED VCU VOLLEYBALL COACH

Tim Doyle, one of the architects of VCU Volleyball's recent historic run atop the Atlantic 10 Conference, will return to lead the Rams, Vice President and Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin announced Wednesday.

"Tim distinguished himself throughout the process with his passion and knowledge of VCU, along with his dedication to developing the young women who play under his tutelage," McLaughlin said. "He played a key role in the most successful period in our program's history, so he knows what it takes to lead VCU Volleyball to win championships and advance to the NCAA Tournament. We welcome Tim back home and look forward to a bright future as he develops our student-athletes into champions."

Doyle, who has led the William & Mary program for the past five seasons, becomes the 10th head coach in VCU history. His efforts in Williamsburg sparked a revival in the Tribe's volleyball program.

In 2022, Doyle steered William & Mary to its most wins (12) since 2012. The Tribe also recorded its most Colonial Athletic Association victories since the 2013 campaign, and advanced to the league championship semifinals for the first time since 2009. Under his watch, William & Mary players earned seven All-CAA awards, including two First Team citations by standout middle blocker Julia Brown.

"VCU holds a special place in my heart, and it's an honor to return as head coach to lead the volleyball program's next evolution. VCU belongs in the conversation as one of the preeminent mid-major institutions in the country, and our mission is simple: Build a nationally recognized, top-25 caliber program that also does it the right way. We'll be known for talented student-athletes who play their hearts out for each other, coaches and staff who empower those student-athletes and keep them as their No. 1 priority in all things, and a way of life where our people work hard, do the right thing, and treat people the right way. I'm thrilled to be back home."

Doyle served as VCU assistant coach from 2014-17 and helped transform the Rams into one of the premier teams in the A-10, as well as a top-50 program nationally.

During his stint on the Rams staff, VCU complied an 80-47 (.630) mark and qualified for the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament each season. He was a driving force behind the Rams' historic 2017 season, when VCU recorded 30 wins (30-3), fashioned the longest win streak in the nation (27 consecutive matches), collected its first A-10 regular season and tournament titles, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005.

Due in large part to the foundation Doyle helped construct, VCU also captured A-10 regular season titles in 2018 and 2019. The 2019 squad earned the program's first NCAA Tournament at-large berth.

Doyle helped shape the career of two AVCA All-Region picks at VCU. He also helped recruit and developed eventual AVCA All-America Honorable Mention selection Jasmine Sneed. During his VCU tenure, the Rams collected an A-10 Defensive Player of the Year honor, as well as eight all-conference honorees, and six all-rookie picks. Doyle saw two players sign professional contracts following graduation.

In 2017, Doyle was selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Thirty Under 30 list.
