Tate's 22 Points Lead VUU to Win Over Defending CIAA Champions
Virginia Union University's Keleaf Tate led all scorers with 22 points as the Panthers defeated the defending CIAA Champion Fayetteville State University 73-61 on Saturday, January 7, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
This marked the second time this season that VUU has defeated Fayetteville State.
VUU's Robert Osborne added 13 points while Raemaad Wright grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds against the Broncos.
"This was a really good win after losing two games in a row," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach Jay Butler. "I thought the guys came out really focus and took pride on the defensive end today! Keleaf came out and shot the ball really well in the first half. Robbie did a good job hitting the open man for easy shots and Raemaad controlled the boards throughout the game."
The win raised VUU's record to 12-4 overall and 2-2 in CIAA play.
The Panthers continue their current home stand when they face Saint Augustine's University at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
