Virginia Union University's Taniah Johnson scored 26 points, but Elizabeth City State University defeated the Lady Panthers 81-71 on Saturday, February 4, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
VUU's Chris Alston scored 12 points while teammate Kiara Shepherd added 11 points in the game.
"We showed strong fight in the second half but the deficit was just too much to overcome," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach Tierra Terry. "ECSU played well and shot 46% from the 3-point line so that is always hard to combat as well. We have to take some very important lessons from this loss and move forward against Lincoln."
Virginia Union will now travel to Lincoln University, Pa., to face the Lions of Lincoln University of Pennsylvania at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 9.
