VUU Places 14th at the St. Leo Men's Invitational

The Virginia Union University golf team competed in the 2023 Saint Leo's Men's Invitational Golf Tournament on February 20th & 21st, 2023. The Invitational was contested on the South Course at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club. The South Course, the original track at Lake Jovita and has a more traditional design than the North Course. It features generous fairways and a velvety-smooth greens. The layout weaves through lakes and ponds that into play on several holes. The course was built to fully utilize the hilly terrain, incorporating a variety of elevation changes throughout. The par-5 11th holes even features a 94 foot drop from tee to green, which is the largest natural elevation change in the entire state. T

There were eighteen teams competing in the Saint Leo's Invitational Tournament. Including the current 2022 NCAA DII National Champions, Lee University. VUU Team scoring was led by 2nd Year Grad Student Hayden Garcia who finished T47 with a score of 223 (76/74/73), followed by Travon Willis 1st Year Grad Student, T50 with a score of 224 (77/75/72), Alkin Barkley, 2nd Year Grad Student, T68 with a score of 229 (83/73/73), Ahmad Reedus, 2nd Year Grad Student, T76 with a score of 231 (81/76/74) followed by Senior Zaccheus Spann 93 with a score of 240 (82/78/80).

"This was another first and another tremendous experience for the VUU Golf Team," said VUU Head Golf Coach E. Lee Coble.  "With the help of Assistant Coach Sean Bowers, the team responded, and played very well in rounds 2 & 3. We are immensely proud of the way the guys persevered to the end. I continue to be immensely proud of the accomplishments of our VUU Golf Team on and off the golf course".
