Robert Osborne Named All-Region

Virginia Union University's Robert Osborne has been named to the All-Atlantic Region Team, it was announced on Friday, March 10.

Osborne, a senior forward from Richmond, Va., was the CIAA Player of the Year while averaging 20.7 points per game to lead the CIAA, and his 8.8 rebounds per game ranked second.  He guided Virginia Union to a Northern Division title (second consecutive) and the top seed in the CIAA tournament.  Osborne shot 54 percent from the field, second among qualified players in the CIAA. The six-foot-five forward led the Panthers in assists per game (3.3; fourth in the conference) and steals per game (1.4). He scored at least 25 points in nine games this year and he has three of the six 30-point performances that came in CIAA play. Additionally, Osborne's 13 double-doubles on the season are tied for third in Division II.

"It feels good to be named All-Region," Osborne said.  "It's obviously been a tough year with the tough schedule we played, so to be able to come out and get all these awards and accomplishments is a credit to my teammates, my coaches, and the fans who support us.  But we have to take care of business because we have more games to play.  At the end of the day it's just one accomplishment but we've got more work to do."

"Robbie played well all year and he's one of the hardest workers on the team," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach Jay Butler.  "He's one of the best players in the conference and the guys have supported him all year.  He did a great job from start to finish.  He was blessed to make the All-CIAA Team, the CIAA Player of the Year, and now he's All-Region and possibly All-American."

Virginia Union will play Fairmont State University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, in Indiana, Pa.
