The only school district in Hanover County suffered declining enrollment in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

There were 16,818 students in Hanover County Public Schools District, 1.5% less than the year before.

Enrollment in Hanover County was steady with the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 52.3% of them were male, and 47.7% were female.

Data also showed that most of the studets were white, representing 73.3% of Hanover County Public Schools District's total enrollment.

Hanover County Public Schools District has a main office in Ashland and is the only school district within Hanover County.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14 in the 2023-24 school year, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
