Hanover County issued the following announcement on Aug. 23

Debbie Preston has been named the new Director of Community Resources for Hanover County. Preston will start September 16 and replaces Lisa Adkins, who retired in June.

Preston comes to Hanover from Chesterfield County, where she served as the Manager of Aging and Disability Services as part of the county’s department of citizen information and resources.  She has worked for Chesterfield County for the last four years.   Prior to that she worked for the Masonic Home of Virginia and has done contract work for the VCU Department of Gerontology.

The Hanover County Department of Community Resources is responsible for volunteerism, information and referrals, youth services, senior services, the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program, early intervention home visiting, and the Hanover DASH specialized transportation program.

“We are excited to have Debbie join our leadership team, and look forward to her helping us to further engage our residents,” said John Budesky, County Administrator.  “This is such an important function for Hanover, and we are impressed with Debbie’s skills and abilities.  Being a resident of Hanover, she already has a sense of what a great community it is.”

“As a long-standing resident of Hanover County, I am honored and thrilled to work and make a positive difference in my community,” said Preston.   “I look forward to working to enhance the lives of others through advocacy, education, and engagement.   Hanover County and this department have such a great reputation.  I can’t wait to get started.”

Preston obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Longwood University and her Master of Science degree in Gerontology from Virginia Commonwealth University.

She and her husband Steve live in the Cold Harbor area of Hanover County with their two sons.
