Trio of Panthers Named Pre-Season All-CIAA/VUU Picked to Finish 1st in North

Virginia Union University's Robert Osborne, Raemaad Wright and Keleaf Tate were all named Pre-Season All-CIAA, announced at the CIAA Basketball Media Day on Monday, September 26, in Baltimore, Md.

Osborne, a senior forward from Richmond, Va., led the Panthers with an average of 13.3 points per game last season.  He scored a season-high 28 points against Claflin last season.

Wright, a senior forward from Suffolk, Va., led VUU in rebounds with an average of 7.1 boards per game last season.  He also averaged 8.0 points per game in 2021-22.

Tate, a senior guard from Washington, D.C., led the Panthers with 145 three-pointers from a season ago.  Tate also averaged 9.5 points per game last season.

"I'm very proud of Robbie, Raemaad, and Keleaf for being named to the pre-season All-CIAA team," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach Jay Butler.  "They are leaders on and off the court. I'm expecting a big year from all three student athletes."

Virginia Union was also picked second overall and picked to repeat its first-place finish in the Northern Division of the CIAA.

"It feels good to be picked number one in the North and number two overall for the CIAA," said Butler.  "We have a veteran group returning and we want to get off to a good start this season but most importantly we want to finish the season strong for our seniors."

VUU will begin its season when the Panthers travel to Petersburg, Va., to meet Shippensburg University on the first day of the PSAC/CIAA Conference Challenge at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 11.
