Panthers Run Home Winning Streak to 27 Games
Virginia Union University's Keleaf Tate scored a season-high 20 points as VUU ran it's home winning streak to 27 straight games as the Panthers downed Shepherd University 73-69 on Monday, December 12, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
VUU's Robert Osborne led all scorers with 24 points while teammate Raemaad Wright recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The last time Virginia Union lost in Barco-Stevens Hall was in the opening home game of the 2019-20 season against Catawba College.
"You have to give credit to Shepherd for playing a good hard-fought game," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach Jay Butler. "I thought they shot the basketball very well tonight and we were blessed to get consecutive stops down the stretch to give us the lead to pull away. I was happy to see Keleaf Tate get going early and continue to shoot the ball well in the second half to give us that separation we needed to get the win. Robbie continues to be our closer at the end of the game and he made some key shots to help us put the game away."
Virginia Union will now travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., to face Winston-Salem State University at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17.
