Virginia Union University's Ny Langley has been named the CIAA Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week while teammate Bruni Martinez has been named the CIAA Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week,  the CIAA announced on Tuesday, December 27.Langley recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds in the 75-71 overtime win over Livingstone last week. All 11 boards were defensive rebounds. This is the junior's sixth double-double and the Greenville, SC native continues her streak of at least 10 points scored in every game this season.In the win over Livingstone, Bruni Martinez grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds (seven offensive boards) and added eight points and two blocks in the game, all career-highs for the Hato Mayor, Dominican Republic native."As always, we are grateful and humbled by these awards," said VUU Head Womens Basketball Coach Tierra Terry.  "Bruni had an amazing game vs. Livingstone and gave us a preview of how impactful she will be in her rookie season. It was nice to see Ny get acknowledged on the defensive side of the ball as well - 11 defensive rebounds is very impressive. Their success is our success, and our team will continue working hard as we prepare for the second half of the season."Virginia Union will play Claflin University at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
