Virginia Union University is announcing new leaders in its academic and administrative teams.
“Accomplished people build top-tier universities,” said Dr. Hakim J. Lucas, President and CEO. “Virginia Union University is welcoming experienced new leaders who make great things happen and who will help propel us toward our goal of becoming Best in Class.”
Joy Hill has more than 14 years of progressive experience in human resources and talent management.
She has held HR leadership positions with Bon Secours Mercy Health, Dominion Energy, Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, and Virginia State University. She is a certified and experienced Human Resource Management Leader with specialized HR certifications in US employment-based immigration sponsorship through the Society for Human Resource Management and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, Benefits and Compensation, HRIS, Metrics, and Reporting from the Academy to Innovate HR.
One of Ms. Hill's most notable accomplishments throughout her career was being the sole HR Immigration Program Manager for a multi-state fortune 500 utilities company. Based on her training through the US Citizenship and Immigration Services and the US Department of Labor, Ms. Hill identified systemic talent issues with hiring for specialized, difficult-to-fill roles while recruiting from within and outside the United States. Her specific abilities to resolve these challenges led to greater transparency and equitability in hiring practices, cost savings, and federal contract compliance.
Ms. Hill's professional memberships include the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Richmond SHRM, HR & Talent Management Executives, the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources, and College University Professional Association-HR (CUPA-HR).
She earned an MS, in Human Resource Management from Capella University and a BS, in Social Work from Virginia Union University. Ms. Hill's leadership philosophy is; leadership is a calling and being a leader is about leading with integrity, loyalty, respect, and compassion. In addition, Ms. Hill's leadership style encompasses being a transformational leader for her organization and a servant leader for her team.
"Being a former student and now an alumna of Virginia Union University, I understand the importance of having an HR organization that continually attracts, recruits, and retains top talent that contributes to moving the institution forward while ensuring VUU maintains its legacy of providing a limitless future."
