Fayetteville State Ends VUU's Volleyball Season
Virginia Union University's Amilex Lopez-Ayala and Aireanna Johnson had five kills apiece, but Fayetteville State University defeated VUU in the quarterfinals of the 2022 CIAA Volleyball Tournament 25-15, 25-19, 25-21, on Monday, November 7, in Fayetteville, N.C.
VUU's Jade Lane had two service aces and two blocks in the match while teammate Ashlee Franklin had 14 assists and two blocks.
Virginia Union's Essence Poteat, playing in her last collegiate match, had eight defensive digs.
"Our Lady Panthers played hard against a more experienced and seasoned Fayetteville team," said VUU Head Volleyball Coach Joe Sullivan. "I am proud of our lady's energy and never give up attitude. This will be the first post-season experience for 12 of our players. Hopefully they will grow from the experience and build on it for the future!"
VUU ends the 2022 season with a 12-12 record, marking the most wins for a Lady Panther volleyball team since the 2018 team won 12 matches.
