TRACK & FIELD ANNOUNCES 2023 INDOOR SCHEDULE

TRACK & FIELD ANNOUNCES 2023 INDOOR SCHEDULE

The VCU Men's and Women's Track & Field programs have released their slate of meets for the 2023 indoor track season, highlighted by hosting the season-opening VCU Indoor Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 8 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va.

The Rams will be traveling all across Virginia to compete this winter, including three trips to Liberty University's Indoor Track Complex for the Brant Tolsma Invitational (Jan. 19-21), the Liberty Open (Feb. 4), and the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational (Feb. 10-11). The Black and Gold will also have in-state meets at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Jan. 13-14 as well as the Patriot Games at George Mason on Jan. 27-28.

During the first weekend of February, VCU will send athletes to the Boston area for two separate meets: the Crimson Elite Meet on Feb. 3, and the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational on Feb. 4. Those meets will be hosted by Harvard and Boston University, respectively.

This year's Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships will take place on Feb. 25-26 at Mackal Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, R.I. The indoor season concludes with the NCAA Indoor Championship on March 10 and 11 in Albuquerque, N.M.

The women's team seeks to defend its Atlantic 10 Championship from last season.  Head Coach  Jon Riley and his staff are bringing back plenty of talent from that squad, most notably senior sprinter Lauryn Freeman, senior high jumper Dasia Mayo, and junior thrower Eryn Byrd. Byrd was named Outstanding Field Performer at last year's 10 Atlantic 10 Championships.

The men will look to build on their fourth place showing in the Atlantic 10 Championships last winter. Notable returners for the men's team include junior sprinter Justin Wallace, senior thrower Jaekob Vollbrecht, and junior high jumper Trevor Thomas. Vollebrecht is coming off an outdoor season in which he qualified for the NCAA East Preliminaries in the discus.
