VUU's 8th Win Sets Up Showdown for Northern Division Crown
Virginia Union University's Jada Byers rushed for 187 yards and four touchdowns to lead VUU to a 45-20 win over Lincoln University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, October 22, in Lincoln University, Pa.
Byers now has 1,560 rushing yards, exactly 100 short of tying the school-record of 1,660 yards set by Andre Braxton in 2000.
The win also sets up a showdown with Chowan University on Saturday, October 29, for the championship of the Northern Division of the CIAA and a berth in the CIAA Championship Game.
"It was a good solid road win for our ball club today," said VUU Head Football Coach Dr. Alvin Parker. "We made some big plays on both sides of the ball and stayed solid in the kicking game. The guys are playing great and the coaches are doing a great job of keeping them in position."
Byers is averaging 195.0 yards per game rushing. If Byers can keep up this pace, he would break the school-record of 150.6 yards per game average set by Braxton in 2000.
VUU's quarterback, Jahkari Grant, completed 17 of 25 passes for 236 yards and a touchdown.
Virginia Union is now 8-0 for the first time since 1990, and will face Chowan University for the Northern Division Championship at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, in Hovey Stadium.
